25 episodes of Dragged to Hell down! This episode features shoegaze, Baltimore post rock bands, hip hop, witch house, guitar shredding, industrial madness, and rock and roll. I decided to start writing a sentence or two on why I included each artist, along with the usual links to their sites. I am going to attempt one or two episodes a month in 2015. I am also planning on writing about every show that I will go to (which should be around one a week this year).
Whirr – Lean: This track is from their 2014 split release with Nothing.
dead mellotron – totaled: I love dead mellotron. Not only are they local to me, but they do the shoegaze genre justice. They are back after a brief absence, and I cant wait to see them live again.
technicolor teeth – Tomb: This release is a collection of unrelated songs, from a few years. But I would like to measure this release to actual “albums”, and I think it ranks high.
Youth In Bloom – Dismantled: More shoegaze fun. I dont know much about them other than they represent Pennsylvania, and have an excellent EP.
Alvvays – The Agency Group: I am late to this party. Poppy sing along but at the same time a bit dreamy.
MANNEQUIN PUSSY – Someone Like You: I love these punkgazers (?). They have excellent hooks in their tunes, and excellent sustain on their fuzz pedals.
Big Hush – Honey: I do not know much about this DC band. I do dig the EP that this is from though.
One Watt Sun – Rudimentary Origami: One Watt Sun’s album is killer. So good. Stop reading this and go buy it!
Steve Gunn – Drifter: Steven Gunn is an amazing guitarist, and this album is a fun journey though a few rock subgenres.
BLVCK CEILING – ROCK BITER: I am a huge BLVCK CEILING fan. This track is off of his ode to the Never Ending Story album, called Bastian, from a couple years ago. Somehow I had skipped getting this one and recently rectified that.
Eyedress – My Hologram (Nothing Special): Eyedress is a producer from the Philippines. He makes dark electronic ditties like this one. His mixtape is out on the internet for free (called Hearing Colours) and is worth seeking out.
the Water – Personality Hall: The Baltimore post rock duo the Water just released a new LP. I really dig it.
Front Line Assembly – Pulse Charge: I never got into them back in the day, but like the stuff I have heard.
Panda Bear – Butcher Baker Candlestick Maker: Panda Bear of Animal Collective recently released his newest album, Panda Bear Meets The Grim Reaper. The album is probably going to be in my favorites of the year list at the end of the year. Chopped vocals, vocal delays, electronics, guitars; this album runs the gamut of musical ideas and manages to stay fresh throughout.
